At Bluff City Electrical Contractors, AI shows up in two places: in the data centers we help power, and in the way we run our own business. We call it Building AI and Developing AI.
Building AI: power for mission-critical data centers
Large-scale AI data centers need electrical systems built for reliability, redundancy, and maximum uptime. Our union IBEW/NECA crews are equipped to ramp up quickly, so we can support large projects and the aggressive schedules that come with data center construction and expansion.
That capacity comes from large-scale industrial work, including approximately 400,000 hours at Ford’s BlueOval City and other major industrial sites.
Our Preconstruction & Estimating Department prices AI data center and mission-critical work, from early budgets and ROM pricing to competitive bids and design-build proposals.
Developing AI: governed tools inside our company
We are also putting AI to work in our own operations to improve efficiency, coordination, and productivity. AI assistants support departments across the company, including estimating, service, federal contracting, procurement, safety, finance, and marketing.
Every one of those tools works under a written AI operating manual and a governance register. The register records material decisions and system changes, along with the reason for each one. Our goal is to make sure valuable company knowledge stays in our own records instead of disappearing in a chat window.
In estimating, AI helps organize bid documents, scope checklists, and industry-standard NECA labor units, and it compares past estimates against actual job results so future bids get sharper. We are also developing proprietary software designed to connect field progress with office decisions.
People make the calls
AI supports our team. It does not replace licensed electricians or experienced estimators. Under our policy, no AI tool can submit a bid, commit pricing or manpower, make a purchase, or speak for the company. Our human estimators review every bid before it goes out, and licensed professionals remain responsible for every installation, inspection, and safety decision.
As a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business certified through SBA VetCert, we bring that same discipline to federal and prime-contractor work.
Want to build what comes next? We’re hiring journeyman and apprentice electricians, foremen, and project managers. See open positions.
